To prove that hard work can be rewarding, 12 Landmark College students spent 16 nights this spring, making over 3,500 phone calls to parents and alumni as part of the Annual Fund Campaign. Their efforts paid off!! On May 14th, the students presented a check to President Lynda J. Katz for over $33,000, during a reception held to recognize their success.
Organized by Fernando Shahbaznia, '97, Associate Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations, this was the first Landmark College TELEFUND — and it was staffed exclusively by students. The students who achieved this milestone included: Gretchen Alexander, Hillary Black, Njenga Burugu, Courtney Galyan, Hart Griffith-Zill, Douglas Leckie, Mollie Lorberbaum, Donald Lyons, Michael Macho, Glynis Price, Sean Smith, and Gabriel Ungier.
"What made the students so successful was their passion for our College, and their ability to communicate that passion to the people they called," noted Shahbaznia. According to Mr. Shahbaznia, while the individual donations ranged from $10 to $5,000, the highlight of the TELEFUND occurred when Njenga Burugu was able convert a $25 pledge into a contribution of $2,000.
The Office of Development and Alumni Relations plans to repeat the TELEFUND each semester, and anticipates even greater student involvement in the future. Landmark College has great hopes of building on this success.
