Application Information

Deadline

Fall semester: first Monday in May
Spring semester: Thursday, December 13
(notification in week after exams)

Application

The application must include:

  • A one-page statement of interest that includes:
    • Why you are interested
    • What strengths you will bring to the SLC team
    • A brief biography
  • A copy of your Landmark College transcript (unofficial copy is fine)
  • A letter of recommendation from a faculty member (sent directly to institute@landmark.edu)
  • Advisor approval indicating that five hour/week commitment is unlikely to hinder your academic work.

Award notification: The students who receive awards will be notified during the last week of the Spring semester for the following academic year. ()

If you’re interested (or think you might be):

  • Consult with your Academic Advisor — Consider whether you can commit five hours/week to this program without jeopardizing your performance in classes. Work commitments include:
    • Five hours/week: weekly lunch meeting, weekly 2-hour project work meeting, additional time as needed.
    • Project work: the team will identify research and/or outreach project for the term, create a project plan, implement the project, and report on it at end of term.
    • Attend monthly seminars held at the college related to computing fields.
    • Represent the SLC to the Landmark College community (such as Involvement Fairs, Open Houses, Board of Trustees gatherings).
    • Weekly journal assignment (2 – 3 paragraphs)
    • Attend 4-day summer conference. Associated expenses are paid by the STARS Alliance. Students who think they cannot attend should still consider applying to participate in the SLC. The conference is a great opportunity to meet students at all levels from other schools, and to learn about opportunities in computing-related fields.
  • Contact Sarah Downing at LCIRT (institute@landmark.edu) for more details — or just to let us know you might be applying.
