Dear Friends in the Landmark College Community:
I am writing to you with exciting news about further realizing our potential
as a college, about effectively serving an ever-growing number of talented
and deserving students, and about some extraordinary plans for the immediate
future.
It is no secret to the community that we have reached the limits of
academic and residential space on the campus - space that is needed to
continue offering high quality educational opportunities to talented
students from across the nation and around the world. It has been our
vision for some time to renovate the East Academic Building to provide
both high quality academic space, but also a permanent home for a growing
National Institute. We are now raising funds for this initiative.
It has also been part of our plan to establish a viable associate degree
program on the campus, with the diversity of program offerings necessary
to remain competitive, and to provide a program that attracts, retains,
and supports appropriate opportunities for our students. Growing the
student population at a modest rate, while providing the resources and
structure to maintain the highest quality, and preserving our reputation
as the premier college for students with learning disabilities and attention
deficit disorders, remains a vital part of our strategic plan.
Renovating the East Academic Building will ease the current tight conditions
in the education program by creating a number of spacious, well-equipped
classrooms, and faculty and administrative offices. Combined with our
other resources, this building will also create the capacity to serve
approximately 500 total students.
Additional capital needs on the campus include creating a new 80-bed
residence building, and expanding and improving our Middle Hall dining
facility. These projects will result in a finished campus for our associate
of arts program, one capable of serving 500 students in a dynamic environment,
with the resources and diverse offerings that students expect and deserve.
The Landmark College Board of Trustees has recognized how critical it
is for Landmark College to continue its controlled growth, and for all
of these projects to be completed in parallel. Each project depends for
its success on the completion of all the projects. The Board has therefore
authorized administrative staff to develop plans and to commence construction
on these projects in the immediate future. We expect to break ground
on some or all of these projects during the current calendar year, and
it is our hope that the dining facility and residence building will be
completed in time for the fall semester, 2005. The East Academic Building
should be completed soon thereafter, perhaps as early as spring 2006.
This is exciting news, and represents an extraordinary period in the
college's development and history. I am thrilled to be able to offer
our students, faculty, and staff expanded space and resources to enhance
our high quality programs. Each and every one of you has contributed
to the success we now enjoy, and without your commitment and contributions
we would not be moving forward confidently into what will surely be a
bright future for us all.
I will be following this message with several opportunities for interested
community members to attend meetings, including a discussion and question
and answer period.
