PUTNEY, VT—September 9, 2003—Rod Alan Risley, Executive
Director of Phi Theta Kappa, the two year college honor
society, was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters by Landmark
College at
its autumn Honors Convocation.
Under Mr. Risley’s leadership, Phi Theta Kappa has grown to over
1200 chapters located in all 50 states, Canada, Germany and Japan. Each
year over 90,000 students are inducted into membership. Mr. Risley also
helped conceive and launch the nationally acclaimed Leadership Development
Program which is now offered at 450 colleges in 49 states, and has been
instrumental in increasing the scholarship opportunities for Phi Theta
Kappa members to over $34 million.
In his remarks, Mr. Risley recognized the unique mission of Landmark
College and challenged the students to pursue their dreams and “do
great things”.
Also recognized at the Honors Convocation were Landmark College students
who had achieved the Dean’s List, others who have been awarded
academic scholarships and faculty members who have recently had their
articles or book published.
President Lynda J. Katz, Ph.D., also inducted the new Student Government
Association Officers—Eric Matthews: President, Navid Bolourchi:
Vice-President, David Noonan: Secretary and Chris Byrne: Treasurer.
